Winter Wonderland
This is one of my favourite themes in our own house these days! It’s incredibly striking and elegant, and also one that I can actually get the wife to approve of! Create a Winter Wonderland Christmas theme! Use only the colours of snow and ice such as blue, white, clear, and silver. Decorate your tree with clear white lights on the tree, and hang icicle and snowflake ornaments, a lighted star topper, and snow flock as an option. Use some faux snow or fiberfill to create a snowy landscape at the base of the tree, and bury your presents partially underneath to compliment a snowed in look. Place snowmen and sleigh figurines throughout your house and yard.
German Weihnachten
Not everyone realises that our own Christmas actually has its roots in Germany. A traditional Weihnacten Christmas features red and dark green colours with only a little bit of lighting, usually around the windows of a home. Generally, decorations are kept rather quaint, so if you’re over in Germany around this time of year, don’t expect to see many houses trying to keep up with the Griswold’s. Decorations used are mainly pine and fir needles on ledges with a bit of ribbon, and Santa figurines painted on windows.
Sports
Show your ultimate allegiance and team pride by decorating in your favourite team’s colours this Christmas! Many team stores even offer team-branded ornaments this time of year with your team’s colours and logo! Buy matching coloured picture ornaments and place the trading cards inside. Also, photo clippings of this season’s starting lineup or favourite all-time players. As an option to more traditional ribbon decorations used on trees and presents, you could go to a craft store and purchase mini pom-poms. And for around the house? Instead of more traditional Christmas figurines, you could instead place collectable figures of your favourite players about and put pint-sized Santa hats atop their helmets.
Treasure
Bling up your home by decorating it in colours of precious metals and gemstones. Use silver and gold-coloured ornaments, ribbons, and lights. Then find some coloured glass beading that resembles rubies and emeralds to create exquisite looking garlands.
Santa’s North Pole
Do you want to keep it more traditional, but as fun as possible? Then go for a Santa’s North Pole theme! Flock your tree and use red and white-coloured lights to simulate a candy cane look. Buy an equal amount of red and clear string lighting, switch out every other bulb and replace it with the other colour.
Then hang them from your home’s awnings and the trees outside to create a Candy Cane effect! Obtain ornaments of toys to hang on the tree, and scenery figurines depicting elves hard at work to place around the home. Be sure to cap off the whole theme by placing a figure of Mr and Mrs Claus in a central location.
