Great Space Saving Ideas for The Bedroom

Space Saving Ideas

In an ideal world, we would all live in huge houses with tiny mortgages. But we live in reality and some people can only afford to buy one bedroomed place with the bedroom being the size of a shoebox. Maybe you bought your tiny forever home before the kids came along. But whatever sleeping situation we had, I always had to think about the best space saving ideas for the bedroom.

I bought a 2 bedroomed home when my kids were little and it has been so squashed over the years, but we managed. At one point there was me and 4 kids living in it. We have had to use so many different sleeping scenarios. I have shared a room with a teen and a baby. I have slept on a sofa bed in the front room.

Making A Difference With Space

Using space saving ideas for the bedroom can make such a difference to how you live. You will be able to enjoy being in your room with all of your beautiful things.

  1. Get a shelf on top of hanging rails and pop some boxes up there. You can use the space for shoes in boxes or paperwork. If you keep your shoes in boxes, take a photo of them so you can look up and see instantly what they are.
  2. Hang jewellery on hooks inside cupboard doors. Hanging necklaces like this will stop them from getting tangled up and they are out of the way. You can also hang handbags or scarves on hooks inside cupboards.
  3. Sort your clothes out into seasonal clothes. You don’t need a summer wardrobe at the same time as a winter one. So if it’s summer put all the winter clothes in a vacuum bag, this gets rid of the air, and they take up less space. Then push them under the bed or to the bottom of the wardrobe. You don’t need your holiday clothes all year round so put them away and store them.
  4. Store things in clear plastic boxes so that you can see them at a glance. It makes things easier and you can just grab it when you need it.
  5. Fold your clothes properly and you will be able to put more into your wardrobe and drawers, Clothes just thrown in a wardrobe or drawers will take up too much space.
  6. Put shelves up over the door frame and use that space to put your booksor things that you don’t use very often. It will be a high shelf but is great for displaying things.
  7. Use coke can tabs and attach two hangers together. Pop one hanger in each hole of the can tab and you can then hang two hangers, where you would normally hang one. You can also hang a chain from a hanger and then add more hangers to it. Then you can fit 5 or 6 hangers in the place of one.
  8. If you work from home, use a table and chair next to your bed instead of a bedside table. Then you have a little office space. And you can just roll out of bed at 8.55am for that 9am zoom meeting.
  9. Buy a storage bed. You can buy beds that you lift the mattress up and store things underneath. But if it is your child that needs more space in their bedroom. you can look at getting them a high riser bed, so there is storage underneath for them to put a wardrobe, drawers or even a desk.
  10. Replace the door with a sliding door. That way the door doesn’t open out and take up too much space.
